The Gobo Lighting Process
1. Start the Conversation
Fill out our lead form, and we will set up a call covering the venue, your event date, the artwork you want projected, and where in the space it should land.
2. Venue Walk and Surface Assessment
We visit the space to check the projection surface, throw distance, mounting options, and ambient light. Texture and color on the receiving surface change how the image reads.
3. Artwork and Custom Gobo Production
We prepare your artwork for projection, confirm the design with you, and produce the gobo. Material selection follows the fixture and the level of detail the image requires.
4. Setup, Placement, and Focus
Our crew rigs the projectors during your load-in window, sets the angles, and focuses each image against the surface with the room dark before guests arrive.
5. Event Operation and Strike
We run the projections through your event, changing gobos or scenes on cue where the run of show calls for it, then break down and remove everything on the venue's schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Gobo Lighting?
Gobo lighting uses a stencil or template placed inside a light fixture to project an image, pattern, or logo onto a surface. The term comes from "goes before optics," which describes exactly where the gobo sits — between the light source and the lens. The result is a projected image with no screen and no visible equipment near it, which is why it works on walls, floors, ceilings, and building exteriors alike.
What Is the Difference Between Steel and Glass Gobos?
Steel gobos are cut from metal and hold up well to heat and handling, making them the practical choice for simple logos, text, and bold shapes. Because the design is cut out of a solid sheet, enclosed areas need small bridges to stay attached. Glass gobos carry more detail and support fine linework and color, at the cost of being more fragile. We select the material based on your artwork rather than defaulting to one.
Can You Make a Custom Gobo From Our Logo?
Yes. Custom gobos are produced from your own artwork, and most of the work happens before anything is cut. A logo designed for print often has line weights too fine to read as projected light, or enclosed shapes that need bridging in steel. We prepare the file for projection, show you the adjusted version, and produce it once you approve.
How Is Gobo Lighting Used at Corporate Events and Product Launches?
Logo projection is the most common use — a company mark across a wall, ceiling, or floor that holds for the entire event and turns up in guest photography throughout the night. Beyond branding, directional patterns steer attention toward a stage or a product reveal, and projections can change between segments as the program moves. One fixture covers a surface no printed element could match at the same scale.
Can Gobo Lighting Be Used Outdoors?
Yes, with one constraint: gobo projection needs darkness to read. Building exteriors, trees, garden walls, and hardscapes all take projection well after sunset, but competing sunlight or heavy ambient lighting washes the image out. We check light levels during the venue walk and plan placement and timing around them.
Can the Projected Image Move or Change During an Event?
Yes. A rotating gobo holder turns the image for dynamic movement, animated effects layer multiple gobos to build shifting patterns, and fixtures holding multiple gobos can switch between images on cue. Our team runs the changes live, so a monogram during dinner can become a pattern once the dance floor opens.
Where Does Gobo Lighting Work Best in a Venue?
Dance floors, feature walls, ceilings, and architectural features—columns, stonework, and exposed structures—are the surfaces that take projection best. Flat, light-colored, and unobstructed surfaces read sharpest, though texture can work in your favor when the goal is atmosphere rather than a legible logo. We identify the strongest surfaces during the venue walk.
