Since our beginnings in 2004, Illuminating Design has been transforming residences, businesses, municipalities, and communities into inviting places of wonderment for the holiday season. The company was founded on the belief that clients deserved a higher echelon of service than was previously available in the industry.
It all started when Bill Frey, found work as a lighting installer for a small lighting franchise in Atlanta after graduating from Clemson University. He discovered a passion for the technology and art form of building installations that creates a spectacular lighting experience for the viewer. This led him to develop a proprietary style of tree light wrapping. He saw the niche opportunity for a business that utilized his relationship-building style and his technical/artistic skills. During this time Bill received his Masters in Marketing from Georgia State University and took the industry by storm
What was once an Atlanta secret, Illuminating Design has risen to the forefront of the holiday lighting, event lighting, wedding lighting and specialty lighting industry. Through continual research and design we have developed relationships with some of the top lighting vendors and manufacturers in the industry. This allows us better testing for the products we are using as well as, giving us the opportunity to work directly with manufacturers to produce the best products available on the market. In 2017 Illuminating Design refocused the business to create large displays for communities, cities, municipal areas, shopping districts. In 2018 Illuminating Design started offering design and consultation services to help others create amazing displays.
Over the almost 20 years of installing luxury holiday décor, Illuminating Design has worked with many cities and high profile installations throughout the Atlanta area and beyond. This has garnered us enormous attention with our work being featured on local and national news outlets. This includes all media types: print, radio, television and monthly publications. While being part of an installation which was chosen in the top 10 public holiday displays by Forbes magazine, we are very proud of our past but believe our best is yet to come. A few of our clients are The Atlanta Botanical Garden, Cheekwood Botanical Garden, City of Atlanta, City of Knoxville, Cox Enterprises and Post Riverside.

Bill graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business and obtained his Master’s of Marketing degree from Georgia State University. From day one Bill had a slightly different way of seeing thing. This has allowed him to become one of the premiere lighting designers in the region. His creative view creates a different spin to lighting and elevates events to the next level. Bill will make your event the one everyone is talking about for years to come. With creativity as a base Bill created and developed Illuminating Design from the ground up. He is passionate about the event lighting industry and has used his marketing skills, technical knowledge and artistic aesthetics to create and grow Illuminating Design. Today, Illuminating Design is known as the premier event, specialty and holiday lighting company in the industry.
